Abstract :
A 1.25 Gbps optical baseband (BB) signal in the on-off keying format is frequency up-converted to 60 GHz using wavelength conversion technique by the cross gain modulation (XGM) in a nonlinear semiconductor optical amplifier (NSOA). The 60 GHz frequency up-converted optical radio frequency (RF) signal is simultaneously generated in the form of a quasi optical single sideband (q-OSSB) signal in the NSOA due to the coherent population oscillation (CPO) effects. Bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the 60 GHz frequency up-converted optical radio frequency (RF) signal transmitted over fiber and air channels is investigated.
