Title :
Simulation, elearning and physical investigation - an integrated approach to embedded systems study

Abstract :
Simulation, practical experimentation, conventional lectures, handouts and Web based learning are all valid learning and teaching methods. Circumstances often dictate which methods are used, as in the case when all class members are remote from the institution to which they belong. If we are in the fortunate situation of being able to choose the methods to be employed, then a combination of all the above may be the ideal solution. The course, outlined below, was an attempt to combine the best features of these methods into a coherent whole. It is described in detail to put the various methods in context, with justification for their use and some preliminary results from the present cohort of students who are taking the course
