Abstract
The degradation of bit error rate performance of an optical heterodyne CPFSK system caused by signal phase distortion due to polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is evaluated analytically in a single mode fiber. The results at a bit rate of 10 Gb/s show that the effect of PMD is found to be significant at higher modulation index.
