Abstract
In this paper, we propose a very efficient and practical approach for code acquisition in the Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication system. The essential assumption is that in the initial acquisition phase a constant preamble is transmitted to the desired user. Then the differential correlation matrix obtained by delaying the signal by two or more symbols consists only of the information of the desired user, while uncorrelating interferers and noise are suppressed. Delay estimates are obtained by differentially coherent eigenanalysis of the differential correlation matrix from the MUSIC type approach. The performance of the method is competitive in practical highly loaded and fading systems
