Abstract :
An algorithm for imaging of buried objects in layered media, without explicit use of the Green function, is presented. The algorithm uses a measured data matrix of the medium response (i.e. scattered field) due to wide-beam acoustic point sources excitation as an input. In order to circumvent the explicit need of the medium Green function, the original data matrix is reformulated in terms of propagation and scattering of plane-waves. In layered media, plane-waves propagation can simply be traced by the corresponding transmission line model. It is shown that this reformulation enables the use of a modified multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm in order to image buried objects. The proposed algorithm is tested in simulations where it exhibits the scatterers location and strength.
