  • Abstract
Imaging techniques available are X-ray, radioisotope scanning, ultrasound scanning, CT, MRI and PET. The most popular imaging techniques in developing nations are X-ray and ultrasound, because of their moderate initial cost, indigenous production in some nations, relatively easy serviceability, and low cost. Developing nations will have to take note of disease patterns prevalent in addition to the above factors before installation of other equipment. CT scan is restricted to specialist referral centers. MRI and PET scanners are still part of research centers as far as developing nations are concerned. Excessive investigation of a patient should be avoided.<>
