Abstract
Recently, the sensory quality or “Kansei” quality such as usability, good feeling, preference and so on has been focused on in any product and service. In order to deal with a complex and ambiguous relationship of preference practically and systematically, the author proposes to create a hierarchy and rearrange the samples by the Fuzzy Structural Modeling method, which is developed on the basis of fuzzy set theory. In order to demonstrate how the proposed method works, a sensory evaluation experiment of preference of usability of a Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) for automatic recording by paid comparisons was conducted. A practical example of the analysis of preference of VCR usability is given, in which the structure of preference has been successfully identified and necessary conditions of preferable design of VCR usability have been clarified
