Abstract :
Summary form only given. Many photon-echo-based devices or processes, e.g., optical bit rate converters, routers, erasable memories, would require that the photon echo output be used as an input to a new photon echo process. This requires amplification of the photon echo output signal. We have demonstrated 45 times amplification of photon echo signals generated in Pr-doped Y/sub 2/SiO/sub 5/ at 606 nm in a Pr-doped ZBLAN fibre amplifier.
