Abstract
In this paper a multimedia call handling scheme is proposed and analyzed for improving QoS (Quality of Service), blocking probabilities and forced termination probabilities in TGMS (third generation mobile systems) where voice and various data services have to be provided under multiple/overlay cell structure. Analysis through IPP (interrupted Poisson process) and MMPP (Markov modulated Poisson process) has been carried out by classifying multimedia traffic into five classes. Optimal buffer sizes of handoff delay-sensitive data and the ratio of the reserved channels for handoff voice and handoff delay-sensitive data according to the arrival rate at each layer are obtained through computation
