Abstract
The authors quantify the performance of broadband second-, third-, and fourth-order cumulant and moment based detectors applied to hydroacoustic transients transmitted through shallow water. Through simulations on real data they obtain probabilities of detection as a function of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for chosen false alarm rates. In the investigated SNR range -20 dB to 5 dB the overall performance of the fourth-order detectors is superior to that of the second-order (energy) and third-order detector.
