Abstract
Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) is the most widely adopted public land mobile network (PLMN) standard in the world. General packet radio service (GPRS) is an overlay packet access technology for GSM. It is anticipated that the abilities of GPRS coupled with exploding GSM subscriber base will make wireless Internet a reality. A necessary component of this architecture is the handling of quality of service (QoS). In this paper, QoS capabilities of GPRS are introduced, the shortcomings of the existing architecture are identified and solutions are proposed
