Abstract
Recent research and industrial accomplishment has revealed the advantages of smart converter PV system over traditional centralized and string PV system. Analytical comparisons have shown great improvement in energy harvesting of smart converter PV system. However, despite the verified improvement, no literature has demonstrated the power optimizing issues associated with smart converter PV system. This paper presents detailed discussion and analysis of the power generation patterns of smart converter PV system. The critical issue of the system is pointed out that abrupt power drop will occur when system running from MPPT region into voltage limit region which will cause instability if traditional MPPT methods are used. To solve this problem, a simple MPPT method is proposed with simulation and experiment result which verifies the feasibility of this concept.
