    The status of multi-GHz photonic components and fibre-optic links from an industrial perspective is presented. Current and future device performance and availability is discussed. We focus our attention on commercially available, active, bandwidth-limiting devices-the lasers, modulators and detectors required for multi-GHz photonic links
