Abstract :
40 Gb/s TDM (time division multiplexing) transponder is implemented and tested. The transponder accommodates four 10 Gb/s optical signals and multiplexes them into 40 Gb/s signal by electrical interleaving. Data and clock mixed modulation is done for the optical clock component amplification. The amplified clock component leads to simple clock extraction scheme at the receiving stage. The transmission BER characteristics are also tested in the WDM link and it showed a good feasibility for the metro-area application
