Abstract :
The D.O.R.T, method (Decomposition de l´Operateur de Retournement Temporel) is a scattering analysis technique using large arrays of transducers. The effectiveness of the method to detect and focus selectively on scatterers was presented in “C.Prada et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 99 (4) 2067-76 (1996).” Here, the method is arrays of transducers. The inter element impulse responses from the transmit to the receive array are measured. It is shown how the singular value decomposition of the corresponding transfer matrix allows to separate the different components of the scattered field. The method is applied to the detection and separation of flaws in a solid sample. The problem of optimisation of the transmit array in order to reduce the signal to noise ratio and to lower the data size is considered
