Abstract
For a long time, due to the lack of a good airdrome tower control simulation training facilities and environments, the ATC controller trainees of both military and civil aviation are trained only by primitive simulation facilities and a short-time practice. Since the controllers´ skills heavily depends on the quality of their training, it is crucial to develop new and more effective training methods. In order to improve the effectiveness of visual training, enabling surveying the airdrome for reconstruction without interfering with the air traffic and providing risk prediction for natural disasters, in this paper, we study the structure of tower simulator visual system from a practical viewpoint, and develop a sample system for the Latvian Riga airport. Our airdrome tower simulator creates virtual three-dimensional images of vivid moving aircrafts and airport vehicles, provides virtual console and communication equipments, and mimics the workflow and system responses of a real airdrome control.
