Abstract
A residual magnetization in the pole-tip of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) write heads may induce erasure of the data track under the pole even when the write element is not energized. Much of the work has been in improving head design to reduce pole-tip erasure (PTE). However, it has been reported that magnetic flux from the medium may also aggravate PTE. This paper investigates the effect of the medium magnetization state, write current, and selected medium properties such as dynamic coercivity on PTE.
