Abstract :
In this paper, we investigate the cost of a novel mobility management-interworking between Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). This paper focuses on scenarios where the two protocols are used by the same mobile node (MN) to manage local and global mobility. In this scenario PMIPv6 is used as a network based local mobility management protocol whereas MIPv6 is used as a global mobility management protocol. We propose an analytic mobility model based on the random walk to take into account various mobility conditions. Based on the analytic models, we formulate the signaling cost, packet delivery cost, tunneling cost, and total cost. Then, we analyze the performance of the interworking mobility management. Simulation results show the validity of the analysis and point out the effect of network environment parameters, such as domain size, session characters and mobile nodes speed.
