Abstract :
In this paper we present results of field intensity measurements on MF band in several different routes in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The aim of these measurements is to determine the average ground conductivity to assist in planning the digitization of commercial radio services operating at frequencies below 30 MHz. The values of conductivities obtained are different from the value proposed in Recommendation ITU-R 832-2 for the region considered. In practice, this means that the coverage area is much higher than the predicted by the regulatory organization, which may cause interference between the signals in analog and digital on-channel simulcast technology. It was observed that some routes intersect two regions of different conductivities. This shows that, to obtain more accurate results, it is necessary to break the route into two or three, depending. Moreover, an increased number of measurements must be made. Measurements on several routes within the RN state should be made to a precise survey of ground conductivity.
