Abstract :
This work uses the CBFM - Characteristic Basis Function Method to solve the equations system arising in the Method of Moments (MoM), applied to predict the electromagnetic fields over irregular terrain. The complete impedance matrix with backscattering contributions is considered. In a different approach of iterative solutions, the CBFM makes use of macro basis functions in order to generate a smaller equations system that can be solved directly. The electromagnetic scattering formulation is developed using the 3-D Green´s Function. Vertically polarized wave is adopted and the Magnetic Field Integral Equation (MFIE) is used because it presents a quicker convergence. Terrain losses are modeled by superficial impedance based on boundary conditions of Leontovich. Numerical results are compared with analytical solutions or with available measurements.
