Abstract :
Large-scale pulsed-power x-ray source systems are expensive collaborations; as such, long-term efficiency is often an important issue for organizations. While those systems used in an R&D setting are regularly modified and breakdown during testing is anticipated, other systems set into a user facility environment are expected to perform more flawlessly over the long term. It is the latter type system facility we will focus on here and the challenges of a large-scale system-wide refurbishment effort (referencing portions of Cygnus Refurbishment Report DOE/NV/25946-1559). We will demonstrate and elucidate the process, discoveries, and challenges experienced in a successful large-scale x-ray source refurbishment of a user facility type system.
