Abstract
Summary form only given. Compact blue laser sources are of interest for many applications. Although the operation of blue diode lasers has been demonstrated, the development of reliable high-power devices, as required for most applications, remains a challenge. An alternative method for diode-laser-based blue-light generation is the second-harmonic generation (SHG) of near-infrared diode-laser light. In this paper, we report on the generation of 830 mW of blue 465-nm radiation by frequency doubling the diffraction-limited output of a tapered InGaAs diode amplifier in critically phase-matched LiB/sub 3/O/sub 5/ (LBO).
