  • Abstract
In this paper, we develop a link-level simulation for a complete radio frequency identification system (RFID). The system is supposed to work at a maximum theoretically distance of 18 m.We simulate two line-coding technique highly used in RFID: FM0 and Miller (MMS) coding. These two codes are implemented to encode the transmitted messages at the tag. Additionally, we save the data at the tag as pre-encoded bits using convolutional channel encoder with different code-rates, e.g., 1/2 and 1/3. Intuitively, our results using FM0 and MMS at the tag show that when M increases (for MMS), the detection improves; however, the data rate decreases. Moreover, the results for channel precoded cases promise for a larger Reader-Tag separation reaching 18 m. Even for extreme environments, assuming Rayleigh Fading channel, the frame-error ratio is promising.
