  • Abstract
    Summary form only given. High-quality nonlinear optical crystals, such as BaB/sub 2/O/sub 4/ have very high damage thresholds (several GW/cm/sup 2/). Their cost is dropping steadily even as their quality has been improved, but the costs of optical parametric oscillator (OPO) cavities are still high. The high cost of the cavity is due in part to the expensive coatings used in the cavity mirrors, which are also vulnerable to high-energy pulses. We have designed a novel ring cavity for OPOs. This design has no coatings on any of the cavity optics.
