Abstract
Summary form only given. We believe we carried out temporally and spectrally resolved measurements of soft X-ray emission from Al plasma produced by a pair of femtosecond pulses for the first time. A weak ultrashort prepulse enhanced the soft X-ray emission about 100 times with a pulse duration of less than 100 ps. When a prepulse was introduced, emissions at shorter wavelengths started and decayed relatively quickly and emissions at longer wavelengths decayed more slowly.
