Abstract
An intermediate type (neither sophisticated nor simple) of electronic surveying instrument is described which maintains sufficient accuracy within an affordable price range. The instrument is essentially based on a microprocessor controlled electrooptical design where the trigonometric principle is used to carry out horizontal and vertical distance measurement. It is noted that a slight improvement of the design will provide an automatic target recognition facility which will be highly advantageous for field work
