Abstract :
Summary form only given. Ion-lattice coupling between different local (impurity)-phonon (lattice) modes is considered the main factor that determines the dynamics of nonradiative processes in impurity-doped solid-state lasers. Although critical, this problem is not yet completely understood. We have investigated the phonons involved in nonradiative processes in Cr:Mg/sub 2/SiO/sub 4/ by using time-resolved Raman scattering and upconverted hot luminescence.
