Abstract
A 14 GHz, 1 kW coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube (TWT) and a 30 GHz, 800 W coupled-cavity TWT have been developed for use in satellite earth stations. The 14 GHz TWT employs periodic permanent magnet (PPM) focusing designed to be light weight and compact, and provides 1 kW power output over the 14. 0 to 14. 5 GHz frequency band. The 30 GHz TWT employs solenoid focusing and provides 800 W power output over an instantaneous bandwidth of 2.5 GHz. Both TWTs are entirely air-cooled. In particular, the 30 GHz TWT employs integral heat pipes for cooling the tube body.
