Abstract
The proposed improved coupling is obtained by modifying the drift tube walls adjacent to the gap edges so that the wall presents an inductive impedance to the beam. In practical gaps this could be achieved by corrugating the walls. For a given geometrical corrugation the theory shows that improvement in gap coupling is proportional to v2/c2. The proposed scheme is therefore particularly promising for high power tubes, with expected increase in gain and efficiency.
