Abstract
Summary form only given. Polydiacetylene chains exhibit large third-order optical nonlinearities and are interesting one-dimensional systems. However, optical spectra of solid-state polymer systems always present broad bands and interpretation of experimental data must take into account the importance of disorder and/or interchain interactions. These drawbacks are minimized in the new system studied here, consisting of polydiacetylene chains diluted in their single crystal monomer matrix. Differential absorption spectra are obtained by a femtosecond pump-probe technique.
