Abstract
In high current circuits several thyristors have to be connected in parallel. At present some external means are used to secure that all the thyristors are turned on during a forward conduction period. We have investigated whether a current carrying thyristor can generate a trigger current which is sufficient to turn on a second thyristor exposed to the same anode voltage but still in the blocking state. This goal can be reached when the thyristors contain two differently optimized gates - a turn on gate and an extra generator gate.
