Abstract
Summary form only given. Although schemes have been proposed, there has been no experimental realization of continuous measurement in atom optics. We study the effect of phase noise on laser-cooled atoms undergoing dynamic localization. Depending on the type of noise the master equation also describes a continuous measurement of momentum or position. Hence it is possible to test the effect of measurement in quantum chaos by tailoring the noise source.
