Abstract
A technique for decomposing a radiating structure into two other structures, a symmetric structure and an asymmetric structure, is given. The combined currents and radiated fields of these two structures are equivalent to those of the original structure. This allows the direct prediction of the portion of the radiated fields due to the common-mode (asymmetric) currents whose emissions often dominate those of the differential-mode (symmetric) currents. Not only does it allow direct prediction of common-mode currents, but it also yields considerable insight into the generation mechanisms for these currents as well as methods for controlling them
