  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The interaction of an optical field with a quasi-two-dimensional exciton system in a semiconductor microcavity is of interest because of the large enhancements in the exciton-field coupling that occur in such an optically dense medium. The wide bandgap semiconductors offer a good opportunity for a range of microcavity studies because of large exciton oscillator strengths and binding energies. We have recently fabricated ZnCdSe quantum well planar microcavities to show normal mode (Rabi) splittings of nearly 20 meV (in strong coupling regime) as well as to demonstrate vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. Here we examine the microcavity response by time-resolved spectroscopy.
