Abstract :
Summary form only given. The study of negative ions has been of great interest over the last few decades, but despite considerable efforts, many outstanding problems remain, even concerning the structure of atomic negative ions. In this paper we present selected recent multiphoton experiments on a variety of atomic negative ion species. Two-photon detachment spectroscopy has been conducted on the Ir/sup -/ and Pt/sup -/ ions via magnetic dipole transitions in a 1+1 photon absorption scheme.
