Abstract
The principle of operation and experimental results for orotrons (Ledatrons) based on the Smith-Purcell effect in an optical resonant cavity are presented. One device was continuously tunable over the 69 to 77 GHz frequency band with about 1 W of output power, and another was tunable over the 68 to 94 GHz band, and a third device was operated at 104 GHz. The purity of the signal was found to be remarkable.
