Abstract :
Editor´s Note: In addition to component and system testing performed by the Engineering Department, tests were run by the Applied Science Department to decide whether the 701 would be acceptable to customers. Jerrier A. Haddad assigned one shift a day to D. W. Ladd and John W. Sheldon ,for this purpose. The results were satisfactory, and the problem that was run repeatedly for a number of weeks is described in the 1952 Ladd and Sheldon paper reprinted here. (Sheldon now says that the problem used all of the tapes and drums and electronic storage available.)
