Abstract
The following essay is by AFIPS´s first chairman, Willis Ware. He reflects on the contrast between the AFIPS envisioned by its founders and early leaders and what he perceives its current realization to be. In addition, he includes his personal prescription of steps AFIPS might take to assume an important leadership role in a continually changing world of information processing.
