Abstract
The paper discusses the requirements for signalling on a broadband network, such as one using asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), that will be needed to support advanced services. Among the advanced services to be supported will be multimedia-multiparty calls using a connection orientated mode. These advanced services will have an impact on the type of signalling that will be required to support call handling in a Broadband Network. It discusses the requirements for signalling by analysing services and call handling requirements to produce a functional model. The evolution of such a model into an intelligent network is also discussed
