Abstract
This paper gives architecture, design and deployment of a cost effective solution for Wi-Fi service inside running metro trains. This includes low cost Point-to-point (P2P) devices working in unlicensed "Industry, Scientific & Medicines" (ISM) frequency band A specially designed directional antenna and configuration modification for wireless security was done to achieve the desired result This is a first ever successful implementation in India with one of the major metro service providers. The results obtained are comparable to high cost and complex technology options. It was observed to show an improvement of signal strength by -20dB and handover timeout by 2 sec.
