Abstract :
Important factors that support the quality of communication in wireless ad hoc networks are routing and congestion controls. The protocols had many challenges in wireless ad hoc network such as high bit error, frequent changes of routing path, as well as limitations of power and bandwidth. To improve the performance of wireless ad hoc network, cross-layer optimization methods are currently gaining much research attention. This paper presents a comparative study of cross-layer schemes especially between the network and transport layers with other layers in wireless ad hoc networks based on objectives, results, layers involved, and the methods used. The results of the study showed that cross layer scheme for against time variations of the network with adaptive protocol has a good performance in terms of delay and throughput parameter, while power aware with adaptive protocol will reduce energy consumption. Joint adaptive routing with channel scheduling and rate adaptation is a good method to deal with network delay variation. For the adjustment of traffic conditions, combination with congestion control would be the right choice. In the future research, complexity and effectiveness of cross layer scheme is very important to be studied.
