Abstract
Improving the cruising range is one of the main research challenges regarding fully electric vehicles. The optimisation of the regenerative braking can help to enlarge the range without an extension of the accumulator capacity. In this paper, a general overview of recuperation strategies is given. The recuperation energy and therefore the obtained range extension of currently available electric vehicles is measured for different kinds of journeys. In a further step, theoretically possible energy values for different recuperation modes are discussed.
