Abstract :
The Brushless DC (BLDC) machines have been used for various applications due to the high power density, high efficiency, low maintenance, and simple construction. The conventional permanent magnet BLDC machine suffers disadvantages such as lack of field control, demagnetization of the permanent magnets etc. Hence dual layer field coil assisted BLDC machine is designed and developed, especially for aerospace applications in MAXWELL software. Finite Element Analysis is performed on the dual layer BLDC machine. Also the terminal voltage regulation of the dual layer BLDC machine is done in SIMPLORER software. The dual layer BLDC machine is then compared with conventional BLDC machine to validate its effectiveness in using for aerospace applications. The design results and the results from MAXWELL show that the dual layer BLDC machine is a good candidate for aerospace applications.
