Abstract :
One major concern for future mobile multimedia networks is how to guarantee various hand-off call dropping rates (CDRs) for different services. Previous research proposed bandwidth reservation schemes, which reduce CDR but may not guarantee CDR. Bandwidth efficiency is another important issue due to the scarcity of wireless bandwidth resources. In this paper, we address these issues by proposing schemes that combine reservation with dynamic channel allocation to improve bandwidth efficiency. Bandwidth reservations are made based on monitored network parameters. Priorities are assigned so that higher priority services may have access to more reserved channels than lower priority services. A simulation study shows that the proposed scheme guarantees predefined CDRs for different multimedia services while providing high bandwidth efficiency
