Abstract :
The most important issues in the Internet are congestion control. Queue management is an important part to provide better link utilization and fair service of buffer at the Internet router so as to control the congestion. To provide this we can implement different queuing techniques at the Internet router where TCP is used as transport protocol or we can use eXplicit control protocol (XCP). Our aim is to analyze both TCP and XCP. So this paper explores the impact of queuing mechanism on the performance of TCP with respect to different number of connection, bandwidth and RTT and makes comparison with XCP in single bottleneck dumbbell topology. Among many TCP variants, we considered Reno as TCP variants protocol over queuing mechanism like random early detection (RED), nonlinear random early detection (NLRED), random exponential marking (REM). Through the extensive simulation, we found that the performance of XCP is better than TCP+RED, TCP+NLRD, TCP+ REM. Among queuing mechanism, the performance of TCP over NLRED is better than RED and REM.
