Abstract :
During the last years a great number of different techniques for the field-strength prediction over irregular terrain have been presented in the literature. They may be classified as empirical, theoretical or as combined methods. Field-strength predictions with these different methods using a terrain data bank were compared with predictions according to CCIR-Recommendation 370-5. The results of these methods were compared with UHF measurements in hilly and partly mountainous terrain in the coverage area of the transmitter Grunten (SWF). For the calculation of coverage areas and regions of interference of a transmitter, an accurate and reliable prediction is necessary. The author gives information about which method yields the best agreement between predictions and measurements in the UHF-range
