Abstract :
The paper introduces the novel combined control strategy of the switched reluctance motor drive. The principles of the control strategy are given The equations of the phase current and the average electromagnetic torque are presented. The hardware of the drive, such as the structure of the motor the rotor position detector with the slotted disk and the transducers, the main circuit of the power converter and the scheme of the control strategy are proposed by taking a four-phase 8/6 structure motor with the four-phase asymmetric bridge power converter for example. The scheme of the turn-on angle and the turn-off angle in the power converter at the different range of the rotor speed are presented. The prototype which adopted the novel combined control strategy is tested experimentally and compared with that adopting the angle position-chopping control strategy, that adopting the fixed angle pulse width modulation control strategy, and that adopting the variable angle pulse width modulation control strategy. The tested results of the systematical efficiency and the phase current peak value are given while the drive is operated at different conditions. It is shown that the drive adopting the novel combined control strategy has the advantages in the high systematic efficiency and the low current rating need of the main switches in the power converter.
