Abstract :
This paper conducts an empirical analysis of the impact of land use and traffic resource supply on commute trip mode choice in China. The analysis uses the data of 2008 Household Travel Survey in Huaibei (a medium-sized city in China) to evaluate the commute trip mode choice alongside a basic measure of residential density, commercial use ratio, bicycle lane coverage and public service on traffic analysis zone level. Based on the multinomial logit model, the marginal contributions of land use and traffic resource supply factors to a basic model (with socio-demographics and trip characteristic) of mode choice are measured. The analysis reveals land use and traffic resource supply significantly influence decisions to walk, bicycle/electric bicycle, public transport, car, or motorcycle use for commute trip. It shows that the model with land use and traffic resource supply factors is superior to basic model on predicting the commute trip mode choice.
