Abstract
Two beam models are considered: An undamped beam and a flexible beam with viscous damping. Each of the two systems have control input and measured distributed output. A simple method based on Fourier series expansion is used to derive the transfer function representing each system. We truncate Fourier series to obtain an approximate transfer function representing each system. The impulse responses are obtained. The error due to approximation is derived. Examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the approximation.
