  • Abstract
    Study on energy consumption in wireless systems becomes attractive recently. The worldwide organization 3GPP has established a series of standards to help reduce energy consumption in wireless systems. However, the utilization of green related techniques is still in theoretical way. To reduce energy consumption in cellular networks, the effective and common method is to shut down idle base stations in leisure time and region, but how to control the target eNodeB and the adjacent cooperative ones are still uncertain according to recent researches. In this work, we try to answer the questions about the operations of eNodeBs in GREEN mode. We analyze the green operations of LTE-Advanced eNodeBs in cooperative mode and raise novel heuristic algorithms to support the on-off schemes of LTE-Advanced cooperative eNodeBs, such as when and which eNodeB will be turned into sleep mode and which one(s) need to wake up and goto work. Compared with traditional method, we have gain about 8 times of the total energy saving through our operation with the cost of less than 6 % of the system overall performance under both theoretical and LTE-Advanced system level simulation platform.
